breaking news overnight, two shootings in one night in st. petersburg. in one of those, two the people sitting in a car at 9th avenue north an library were shot. investigators aren't revealing a motive but speculate drugs played a role. and a deadly shooting in st. pete and police believe it may be an accident. a man was shot. he showed up at the hospital and later died but police don't expect charges to be filed. and tracking the tropics. overnight tropical depression six formed over the atlantic. it could become tropical storm

news channel 8 today. i'm gayle guyardo. >> and i am gene ramirez. we have breaking news this morning. it has to do with traffic. let's check in with leslee lacey. >> yeah, we're kick-off with a crash on the howard frankland bridge. it's on the tampa side and it is northbound. here's a quick look at it. and we have the two right lanes open. just a few minutes ago, only the right lane was open so they have cleared it to the two left sides. injuries involved in the crh. vehicles on the roadway, we are keeping an eye on this one. omar has a live look for us. this is in the distance with the water. but again, this is the accident northbound on the howard frankland bridge. and as we come back to the maps here, you can see begin those two left lanes are taken away. fortunately we don't have delays. just because there's not that many vehicles on the roadway. >> thank goodness. >> hopefully the weather is

it was hot yesterday. didn't break a record but we were darn close. 97 in sarasota. the old record was 99. thank goodness we didn't hit that. tampa hit 94 and the old record was 97. back to school again on this wednesday, 79 degrees for the first class. 89degrees at lunchtime. and 92, the hot afternoon when the final bell rings. with rain chances increasing, about a 20% rain chance early afternoon. 40% rain chance after 4:00 p.m. as the storms head toward coast. coming up at 4:48:38 in weather and traffic on the 8s, i am tracking tropical depression six for you. >> thank you. the future of a tampa nursing home is in question. workers, residents and lawmakers will plead to keep university village open after an 8 on your side investigation revealed problems with the facility from broken air conditioning units to leaky roofs. 8 on your side's ryan hughes is there this morning. and at one point, people wanted it shut down but now they want

>> reporter: gene, good morning. university village has been plagued with problems for years but now it's under new management and workers and residents think it should be given a second chance. they plan to and to keep it open. last month, the judge recommended that the owners pay a $10,000 fine and suggested that the state revoke the home's license but workers want to the keep their jobs and residents want the to keep their homes. people conditions continue to worsening, flooding, leaky roof, expensive lawsuits with the state diverted money that residents claim should be used to fix up the place. >> the biggest thing is the lack of air conditioning. >> the dining room, no air conditioning. the buffet is hot before you start. >> they're putting band-aids on everything. people are worried the minute that the air conditioner goes that they won't get another one.

things were so bad in the home, it's now condemned and more troubling, investigators say one child hadn't gone to school for two to three years and had trouble communicating. a hillsborough county teacher remains in critical condition after a deadly crash. he was in a car hit by an accused drunk driver. his friend, a fellow teacher died in the crash. now her family is talking to doctors about harvesting her organs. bryce manslaughter charges in connection to her death. police claim he ran a red light, crashing into the car the teachers were in in pinellas park. right now, there's a $5,000 reward for anyone that helps nab a cat kill templet man putting up the reward believes a person or people are using howard frankland bridge to dump cats. that's where news channel 8's lindsey mastis is this morning. lindsay, tell us more about what's going on. >> reporter: yeah, gayle, so

been found along the howard frankland bridge. two have been rescued. we have been following the the stories for months and now one man has had enough. >> it's these people that have some type of disorder to abuse animals that we have to put behind bars. >> reporter: that is dan hester, the found of the cat spay and neuter program. and he is putting up $5,000 of his own money as a reward. he has been moved by a recent two women saw this little guy thrown from a window on the howard frankland bridge and it got stuck in a wheel well. luckily the cat was rescued. the florida highway patrol is spreading the word about that reward. and to claim the reward, all you have to do is provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible. and you can share this story from our wfla facebook page as well, help get the word out. gayle-- >> i know we have been

cats found and now it seems like it's a trend. thank you, lindsay. the florida chamber of commerce event explores ways the community can support veterans with services and jobs. in your vote, republican presidential candidate donald trump will get a classified intelligence briefing in new york. it will be conducted by the office of intelligence. since the 1950s, presidential candidates have received the intelligence briefings. officials explain the briefings are fairly general. new developments in the email scandal surrounding democratic presidential candidate hillary rodham clinton. the fbi turned over documents related to the investigation into clinton's use of a private email server. congress is going over the information. in the document, the fbi explained why it did not recommend charging clinton.

away from 4:38 on this wednesday morning. how is it looking? >> well, you can bet it's going to be another scorcher out there. temperatures right now are a mild and muggy -- now are mild and muggy. but they're going up to 89 by noon with an afternoon high of 93. notice 89 degrees at 6:00 p.m. that's because the storms start then. look at the rainfall potential between now and about 1:00, 2 :00, very sparse rainfall. but after 4:00, really fire up along and west of i-75. watch for some strong thunderstorms there this afternoon and evening. and as we mentioned, tropical depression six has formed and it should strengthen to tropical storm fiona. but in the last minute or so, i got the 5:00 a.m. update. it should become tropical storm fiona by the end of the day but it stays out to sea and shouldn't pose an issue for us

coast. let's check on traffic on the 8s. we have the big problem. yeah, the problem on the howard frankland bridge. that in a second. we have another issue in pinellas county. northbound 275 as we look at the maps, near the 38th avenue north entrance ramp. we have a collision. i'm not seeing delays. it's tying up at least one lane on the ramp. and let's head to the waterways. no delay here but northbound as you move into the tampa bay area from pinellas county, an accident on our howard frankland bridge. here's the situation. the two the two left lanes are blocked. injuries are involved in this crash. and meliek on the street, he is down there with a live view. and ouch, that's turned over on the side. the barrier just behind it. so traffic again still getting by on the right. but they've got to get the car out of there and they have to clean things up. looks like it's going to be closed down in the two left lanes for a bit. i'll let you know when it opens up. in the meantime again, no

we're back. a sumpter county man is fighting back after he was arrested for shooting an ga horses and attacked his stepson. >> when he raised up, after my stepson, it looked like he shot out of a canon. i had never seen nothing like it. >> it was a burst of lightning like. it was a surprise. >> the first man was the 74- year-old and then his stepson talking about how that alligator attacked. it was nearly 10 feet long when it threatened the horses. he shot it several times.

and friday. notice lower rain chances saturday and sunday but the rain could start earlier in the day. how about traffic on the 8s? all right, a look at the roadways on 275 and pinellas county right around 38th avenue north by the entrance ramp. word of an accident there but no delays. that's good news. and let's head farther north on the howard frankland bridge moving into tampa. big issue here. here's a look at it. only the two right lanes open. two left lanes are blocked. and now earlier, they had three of the lanes blocked. it has looks better here. but still a lot of activity due to this accident with injuries. let's go to meliek on the street. there's the vehicle. just one vehicle involved in this crash. looks like it may have hit the barrier because it's crunched up and it's on the side. injuries involved in the accident. and looks like people are still out there. they have to get the car out and clean the area up. so the two left lanes will probably be closed for a while. fortunately no delays. this is northbound heading into
